6 Steps To Making Content Work For Your SEO Campaign

Content marketing is a critical element of SEO these days, which means that if you want success from Google and Bing, then you need to make sure that you are producing blogs and articles that are in line with your overall SEO requirements.

Writing for SEO is not what we are talking about here, but writing with your SEO campaign and objectives in mind is of course the critical element, as if your content is not in line with the keywords and key phrases you want to rank for, you are not only wasting time but also wasting extreme effort on producing blogs that will have little to no effect on your business levels. For example, if you want to rank for one keyword, but you are writing about something else, this is not really a connected effort, which is where your campaign could start to fall short.

These 6 steps below will help you to make sure that your content is working for your SEO campaign:

Identify Your Keywords

There is no point writing a load of content that is not going to help with your overall rankings for keywords that are going to get you traffic, as yes, you might get a load of social sharing to deliver a few people, but realistically, your content needs to reflect what you want to rank for. Make sure that you work on the required keyword research, to make sure that when you get the rankings you really desire you are going to get traffic from it, as it is important that your focus is correct and that you are focusing on the right aims, otherwise, your new rankings could result in no really traction for your business.

Plan Your Title

If you plan your titles well in advance and the main content (as we discuss below), your life will be so much easier and you will be able to produce far more content in the long run. Having a long list of titles is really efficient and clever, as you can then move them around to make sure you are not focusing too much in one area at any one time, and you can then quickly add more titles as and when they pop into your mind, or you see something that someone else has written and feel you could add a different aspect to it.

Plan Your Article Content

As we have said so many times before, it is really hard just to sit down, come up with a title and then produce an amazing blog that is going to engage your audience and help your rankings. Try to take some time to plan your titles in advance and then put some bullet points together for key headers or information that you really want to focus on, then when the time comes to write your new blogs you will have your content in place to not only make things much easier, but to make sure that your latest article really is of enough quality to deliver the right results.

Make It Long Enough To Count

Churning out blogs of one paragraph or 100 words is simply not going to do anything for your website in terms of rankings, and although you might think that you can sum up a decent article in a few minutes, this is just not the case. The content needs to be long enough to actually count, which these days is a minimum of 600 words and at best 800 – 1000, as this is going to be a really solid article that the search engines (and your readers) can really get their teeth into. Saying that, don’t just add a few hundred extra words to stretch the blog out, as this is pointless, but you should be aiming for quality blogs and articles that are of a decent length.

Onsite Optimisation

Just because it is a blog or an article page, you still need to run through your onsite SEO checklist, making sure you have a strong title tag, meta description, internal linking in place, optimised headers and a good, all round loading experience. It can be really easy to just chuck a new blog up and ignore these normal processes, but you still need to make sure you fully optimise the blog or article to get the most SEO benefit from it.

Encourage Sharing And Caring

Once your new blog is up and live, you then need to make sure your audience is notified and ready to come and read it, which is where you need to make sure that you share your new article with your Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and all the other audiences that you can. The more people that see your blog, the more chances you have that they will share it and even link to it or reference it, which from an SEO point of view is so important for your SEO campaign that you really do need to factor this into your content marketing.
